Plans & Pricing
Mint Mobile offers some of the most affordable plans, and they have a special New Customer offer that helps you save even more money. The New Customer plans start at just $15/month, for a commitment of three months. After your three months are up, you’ll need to subscribe to a 3-month, 6-month or 12-month plan – unfortunately, Mint doesn’t offer one-month subscriptions.
All plans come with unlimited calling and texting and nationwide coverage. For data usage, Mint uses 5G or 4G LTE depending on which is strongest in your area. Mint also offers family plans with no data overages, and you can pick how many lines you need and customize your plans to each line.
Mint also offers a seven-day money-back guarantee – you can cancel your plan within 7 days of activation, for any reason, and Mint will refund you 100% of the purchase price, plus any taxes and fees you paid. The company doesn’t refund shipping costs, though.
Overview
Mint Mobile is a relatively young network provider, originally founded in 2015 as a subsidiary of Ultra Mobile. Back then, it was known as Mint SIM, but the corporate spin-off took place in 2019. Ryan Reynolds, an A-list Hollywood celebrity, acquired around 20-25% stake in Mint Mobile during the spin-off and has since become the face of the company’s advertising. However, it’s still primarily operated by Ultra Mobile.
The Modern Family Plan | Mint Mobile – YouTubeMint Mobile is known for its competitive pricing plans and its battle against “Big Wireless.” The company is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that gives you access to T-Mobile’s cellular network.
Features and Functionality
Every Mint plan gets you unlimited calling and texting with nationwide coverage, and the data plans come with mobile hotspot functionality (which many network providers bill you separately for).
Calling
All of Mint Mobile’s plans, including the New Customer offer, give you unlimited minutes for calling with nationwide coverage.
Texting
Just like with calling, every Mint Mobile plan gets you unlimited texting with nationwide coverage.
Internet
Since Mint is an MVNO, it relies on T-Mobile to deliver network services – and like any MVNO, Mint doesn’t offer truly ‘unlimited’ data. Instead, you’ll get 5G or 4G LTE services up to your data usage limits (which is 40GB for the Unlimited plan), after which you’ll be downgraded to unlimited 3G speed.
Alternatively, you can top your plan up or wait for the end of the month (when your limits renew). To top up, just log in to your Mint Mobile account and navigate to “Add more data”. All Mint Mobile plans come with tethering, so you can create mobile hotspots at no additional charge.
Nationwide coverage
All Mint Mobile plans include nationwide coverage – and you can check how good the coverage in your area is with Mint’s coverage map.
Mint supports eSIM
Mint Mobile offers eSIM technology for compatible devices and runs on the T-Mobile 5G & 4G LTE network. The main country supported is the United States, with calls across North America. The pricing and plans depend on the available eSIM plans according to Money Saving Pro are the following:
GB | Average price/mo. |
5GB | $15/mo |
15GB | $20/mo |
20GB | $25/mo |
Unlimited | $30/mo |

Final Word
While having an A-list celebrity on board definitely helped Mint capture the U.S.’s attention, its affordable, flexible plans and excellent customer support are to thank for its steady growth. Mint Mobile is committed to delivering affordable, premium wireless services, and you’ll find that its plans are very competitive. Since Mint uses T-Mobile’s network, it offers good, reliable coverage nationwide. However, most MVNO’s either don’t offer international roaming, or their roaming features are quite expensive – Mint falls into the second category. Additionally, if you’re not keen on bulk plans where you have to commit to a long-term subscription, Mint might not be the best choice for your needs.
We really like Mint Mobile’s 7-day money-back guarantee because it reduces the risk in your buying decision, and the New Customer offer sweetens the deal. The company’s ‘bring your own phone’ (BYOP) offer also means you don’t have to part ways with your old device. Overall, if you’re looking for a reliable, cost-effective network provider, then Mint Mobile is definitely worth considering – provided you don’t mind making an upfront commitment.
