Plans & Pricing

Boost Mobile offers a total of ten different plans, although some plans have the same limits – the only difference is your upfront commitment to the subscription and the price. For example, paying for three months of the 5GB service will cost you $15/month. But if you pay for only a month, you’re looking at $25/month.

So, while you don’t need to lock yourself into long-term subscriptions, Boost Mobile is much more affordable if you do. The network provider also runs new customer offers from time to time, with generous discounts. Additionally, while some providers only sell mobile hotspots as a separate add-on, Boost includes it with all of its plans.

Like most MVNOs, Boost Mobile’s Unlimited plans have a catch – after you hit the 35GB usage mark, the speeds slow down.

Boost also offers generous family plans to help your whole family save money. The plans start at $35/month and include unlimited data, talk and text, although there are limits for high-speed data. You can add additional lines for around $30 a line, but depending on your plan, it might cost you even less.

Features and Functionality

Boost Mobile’s plans include unlimited calling and texting within the U.S., and your data usage limits will correspond to the plan you subscribe to. You can purchase international services as separate add-ons.

Calling

All of Boost Mobile’s plans come with unlimited calling within the U.S. However, Boost has many international services add-ons that you can purchase to make calls internationally. For example, the International Minutes Pack lets you call and send messages to a designated country for as little as $3

Texting

Just like Boost’s calling features, the network provider offers unlimited texting within the U.S., and you can purchase add-ons for international texting (the Minutes Pack lets you send texts to a designated country for as little as 10c/message).

Internet

Boost Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that uses AT&T and T-Mobile’s infrastructure – you’ll receive services from whichever provider offers better coverage in your area. Boost Mobile provides 4G LTE and 5G services through these carriers, and you can choose from 1GB to unlimited data per month, depending on your needs.

Nationwide coverage

Boost Mobile offers nationwide coverage through both AT&T and T-Mobile infrastructure, so it offers some of the broadest coverage in the U.S. You can check for coverage in your area with Boost Mobile’s online coverage map.

Boost supports eSIM

Boost Mobile offers eSIM plans for compatible devices and runs on a 5G & 4G LTE data speed under the AT&T and T-Mobile Networks. It has coverage throughout the United States. These are the average price for the plans, according to Money Saving Pro:

GB Average price/mo.
1GB $8/mo.

15GB $20/mo. First-year
Unlimited  $25/mo

Ease of Use

Before purchasing your Boost SIM, we strongly recommend visiting a Boost Mobile store to get in-person service. This is because many customers complain about their experience with ordering their SIM online without confirming their phone’s compatibility – even if your device is compatible with Boost’s network, it might not be with the plan you’re interested in. So, it’s best to visit a store and have your device compatibility checked before you move forward.

You can find your nearest Boost Mobile store here.

Before you activate your Boost SIM, make sure your phone is unlocked (ask your current provider about this if you’re unsure). And if you want to bring your current number over, ask your provider for your number transfer PIN and account number. Don’t cancel with your current provider until after you switch over to Boost. You’ll also need your device ID, which you can get from the Phone app – just dial *#06#

If you only order a SIM card, the kits take two business days to arrive, courtesy of UPS 2nd Day Air. If you’ve ordered a new device too, both your device and SIM card will arrive 3-5 business days after shipping, via UPS Ground. When your order is shipped, you’ll receive an email with a UPS tracking number to monitor your order’s status.

If you go to the store to have your phone set up, the whole activation process takes no more than 30 minutes. Otherwise, you can activate it online on Boost’s website.

Customer support

Boost offers online support via phone and live chat, but many customers have complained about their online support on review platforms. So, it’s best to make sure you have a Boost Mobile store nearby, in case you need in-person service. The company’s live chat and phone support hours are from  4 am – 8 pm PST on Mondays to Saturdays and 4 am – 7 pm PST on Sundays.

Boost Mobile lets you track your data usage from your online Dashboard. Just head on over to the “My Usage” section for details of your remaining data and the next billing cycle.

Final Word

Boost is an established MVNO that’s been in business for over two decades. You can choose from one of the company’s ten different subscriptions – to find a plan that suits you just right – and you can further customize your plan with premium add-ons, like international calling, visual voicemails, secure WiFi, and more.

While most MVNOs rely on a single provider to deliver their services, Boost Mobile uses both AT&T and T-Mobile, so its coverage is more well-rounded. Boost’s plans are quite affordable, and even the entry-level 1GB and 2GB packages let you create mobile hotspots (which some providers lock behind add-ons or higher subscription tiers). The network provider also offers generous discounts on family plans, and you can open multiple lines at discounted rates.

Overall, if you’re looking for good value for money and great coverage, Boost Mobile is definitely worth considering. However, it’s best to make sure you have a Boost store nearby because many customers have complained about the company’s online support. And make sure you get your device’s compatibility checked beforehand.
